Arnold Shappiro, winner of nineteen Emmy awards and an Academy Award for the movie Scared Straight, is the producer of a documentary series Brat Camp, on troubled teens. The series addresses the changes in the lives of teens sent to a wilderness school.

Shapiro chose Nick Van Duren of Arlington to be featured in the program, along with eight other teens.

Nick had attended Sagewalk, a wilderness school in central Oregon, and was subsequently enrolled in Pacific Learning Solutions in the fall of 2004 to be tutored by Nola Smith.

ABC TV came to PLS to interview and film Nola tutoring Nick. Shapiro was interested in the program of instruction that Nick was receiving at PLS to overcome learning difficulties.

As you watch the story of Nick and the other young teens, your heart is drawn into their lives as they struggle to mature in character and to learn in school.

Brat Camp began airing on July 13, 2005 and continued on Wednesdays for 6 weeks.
